Theresa Jones (played by Sarah Michelle Geller) is a recently divorced mom of three (Marissa, mark and Maggie). Her husband left her to move across the country to be with a woman he met over the Internet. Theresa is a high school graduate who is content raising children and running a household.
She is still looking for her knight in shining armor. For fun she goes to bridal shops and tries on wedding dresses. Fully embracing domestic life Theresa is not only good at cooking and cleaning she can swing a hammer and turn a wrench with the best of them.

Ann Russell (played by Shannon Elizabeth) is a twice divorced, career-oriented journalist with three children (Grace, Daniel and Joshua). She owns the home the family will be living in.
Maggie Jones (played by Shelby Adamowsky), 10, is the youngest daughter of Theresa Jones. An overly emotional drama queen she is still having a hard time dealing with the fact that her dad left and that she is no longer the baby.
Grace Karris (played by Dakota Fanning),14, is the oldest child of Ann Russell. Characterized as "Miss Independence" she has survived so many of her mom's relationships that she is determined to be a feminist and not "need a guy."
Daniel Karris (played by Alec Roberts),9, is the son of Ann from her first marriage. He is into video games and Star Wars and loves spending time with his dad.
Chris Karris (played by Ben Affleck) is Ann's first ex-husband and the father of Grace and Daniel. An active figure in their lives he takes them every other weekend and is frequently seen at school functions with his new wife Amanda.
Steve Waters (played by Freddie Prinze Jr.) is Ann's next door neighbor who befriends Ann and Theresa and becomes part of their extended family.
